This project explores NASA MASTER observations collected during the 2019 FIREX-AQ campaign to evaluate satellite active-fire products from the polar-orbiting VIIRS instruments and the geostationary GOES ABI instruments.
MASTER provides high-resolution airborne measurements that can reveal small or spatially complex fires that may be difficult to characterize at satellite resolution. By matching MASTER observations with near-simultaneous VIIRS and ABI measurements, this project examines fire-detection performance, missed and filtered detections, fire-pixel aggregation, and fire radiative power (FRP).
